Conservatories

Conservatory walls

Once you have selected a design for your conservatory, you need to think about the building materials to be used.

For the conservatory to blend in well with the rest of your home, the colour and materials used need to match those already used – particularly the double glazing windows. The area in which you live needs to be considered too – as if you live in a conservation area or a listed building, you may be limited in the type of materials you can use. Strength, insulation, comfort and transparency are all important and perhaps you may need security frames and glass for added protection against intrusion.

Conservatory walls can be fully glazed or have a low brick (dwarf) wall combined with double glazing window. Whatever the material used, the thicker the wall, the stronger it will be – and this is especially important to bear in mind if it needs to support the weight of a glass roof.
